Her Storie:
My name is Teresa Hamiel. I am 44 years old. My husband and I both joined Fierce Play approximately about two years ago. I’m a physician assistant, family medicine at North Memorial Hospital. Basically, our lives revolve around our work, our family and now our gym.
I’ve been a member for, it’ll be two years in January. I’ll go home to my hometown and people are like, “Whoa, what happened?” You know? I’ve lost over 70 pounds since coming here. Actually, probably closer to 80. I’m putting on clothes that I haven’t even dreamt of wearing in a very long time, so it’s fun.
Before Fierce Play … before we joined Fierce Play, our fitness was different in the fact that I personally had never and I don’t believe Chris had either, had done a classroom type setting and I didn’t … we didn’t realize how motivational it can be. It was a lot of snap fitness, go to the gym on your own. You had to either self-motivate or it was the treadmill or out running or walking and so we did not have the diversity, I would say, of different exercises.
I had no idea that there was so much to weights. I primarily would connect that with bodybuilders, weightlifting, I had no idea that this can be for all strengths, all sizes, all people and how much it can truly make you fit. I think that a lot of times people don’t realize, especially in our gym, you can scale to your ability, which my ability was very beginning. I couldn’t even do a box jump. I had to start with a very low weight jumping. I was super self-conscious, but the coaches where really patient and my confidence grew over time, as well as did my skills.
Chris and I both, our physique has completely changed, as well as our whole demeanor, our confidence level, just how we feel about life on a daily basis. It’s more than just exercise.
I felt like I was an athlete in high school, but that completely got lost along the way when I got married, had kids, started a career and I feel like I’m finding that now again, which is an amazing feeling. I am so much happier. Just straight up. Chris and I both are.
It reduces my stress level. Even if I have the worst day ever, I come in here because we constantly are having fun, goofing around, laughing while we’re working out, so it just alleviates my stress, immediately as soon as I get here. Consistently, on a daily basis, I just feel better. I feel … you aren’t out of breath when running up the stairs and you feel good when you wake up in the morning and you know, boy I really worked out really hard yesterday and I’m going to go back and do it again today.
